FROM SLAVE TO SERVANT

Wednesday, July 4th, 2018 Message By: Pastor Terry Welham Series: FROM DEATH UNTO LIFE: EMBRACING AN EMPOWERED LIFE “FROM SLAVE TO SERVANT" ♱♱♱♱♱♱♱♱ “But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes You're gonna have to serve somebody Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord But you're gonna have to serve somebody” (BOB DYLAN) 1.) WE ARE TO CHOOSE WHO WE ARE SLAVES TO ➢ Slave: One who involuntarily, usually by forced obedience or oppression, enters into service for others “Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.” (Romans 6:16, NLT) “And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.” (Romans 8:2, NLT) 2.) WE ARE FREE, CHOOSE TO LIVE RESPONSIBLY "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36, ESV) “For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature…” (Galations 5:13, NLT) “It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1 NASB) 3.) WE ARE SERVANTS, CHOOSE TO SERVE OTHERS IN LOVE ➢ Servant: One who voluntarily and willingly enters into service for others “…Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.” (Galations 5:13, NLT). "Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you’re serving is Christ.” (Colossians 3:23-24, The Message) Life Group Questions: What is being a slave to sin? What is being a slave to righteousness? What is the difference between Jesus’ “yoke” and a “yoke" of slavery? Discussed the difference between being a slave and being a servant. How can you use your freedom in both a positive and negative way? Who are you a slave to and who are you a servant to?
