THIS IS THAT

Wednesday, November 14, 2018 Message By: Pastor Terry Welham Series: Up Close & Personal with the Holy Spirit! “THIS IS THAT" “But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:” (Acts 2:16–18, KJV) 1.) THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT IS DISTINCT FROM SALVATION “ And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.” (Luke 24:49, NLT) "As soon as they arrived, they prayed for these new believers to receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them, for they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John laid their hands upon these believers, and they received the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 8:15–17, NLT) 2.) THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT IS FOR THE FORMATION OF CHRIST IN OUR HEARTS “that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;… that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:16–19, NASB) “Anyone who claims to be intimate with God ought to live the same kind of life Jesus lived.” (1 John 2:6, The Message) “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23, NLT) 3.) THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GIVEN FOR THE KINGDOM BY THE KING “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8, ESV) “A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.” (1 Corinthians 12:7, NLT) 4.) THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT IS FOR YOU ! “He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said to him, “No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” (Acts 19:2, NASB) “ …you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” (Acts 2:38–39, ESV) Life Group Questions are: Does the Holy Spirit come into our hearts when we receive Jesus as Savior? Is the baptism of the Holy Spirit necessary? Who’s the baptizer with the Holy Spirit? Who can receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit? How do we receive the baptism with the Holy Spirit? What should we expect to change in our lives when we receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit?
