“When You Hit Rock Bottom”

ROCK BOTTOM IS THE FLOOR OF A NEW BEGINNING.

"The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;" (Psalm 18:2 NASB)

The Hope in Rock Bottom

1. ROCK BOTTOM DETACHES US FROM FALSE HOPES.

  • ROCK BOTTOM’S FIRST VICTIM IS VANITY.

"Remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world." (Ephesians 2:12 NASB)

2. ROCK BOTTOM DEMANDS CHANGE.

"When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?” (John 5:6 NASB)

"The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” (John 5:7 NASB)

"Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked."

(John 5:8-9 NKJV)

3. ROCK BOTTOM DISCLOSES OUR NEED FOR A SAVIOR.

"And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS." (Luke 1:31 NKJV)

Life Group Discussion:

  1. Have you hit rock bottom before (i.e. in your marriage, job, finances, family, etc…)? What were the lessons learned?

  2. Rock Bottom will reveal false hopes. What are some of the false hopes that often deceive people and how would you disciple those who have taken on false hopes?

  3. JESUS came in the form of a baby. Discuss why a sovereign God would choose to come in the form of a baby.

  4. How would you honor our LORD and Savior this Christmas season? Think practical.
