“For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function,” (Romans 12:4,ESV). “But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.” (Hebrews 3:13, NASB)
1.) ACCOUNTABILITY IS A CHECK AND BALANCE SYSTEM
➢ Accountability allows us to be answerable to one another
“submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.” (Ephesians 5:21, ESV)
➢ Accountability enables us to share our lives with one another
“Live in harmony with each other...” (Romans 12:16, NLT)
➢ Accountability is NOT the place to gossip or vent
“Gossips can’t keep secrets, so never confide in blabbermouths.” (Proverbs 20:19, The Message)
➢ Accountability is NOT about confrontation it’s about restoration
“Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.” (Galatians 6:1, NKJV)
2.) WE ARE ACCOUNTABLE TO GOD AND TO EACH OTHER
”For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.” (2 Corinthians 5:10, ESV)
”So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.” (Romans 14:12, NKJV)
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2–3, ESV)
➢ ACCOUNTABILITY IT’S NEEDED ”Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9–12, NLT)
3.) ACCOUNTABILITY THE NEXT STEP
Life Group Questions:
Who are you accountable to and why?
Discuss what it means to be accountable to God. Should we
be accountable to others?
What part can Life Groups play in the Christian
accountability? What are the benefits of being accountable?
How can you become a person that people could come to for
needed accountability?
Do you want a Christian accountability partner and/or group?
What kind of character traits should you look for in that partner or group?
