“Foundation of an Intimate Relationship"

••••

“This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:3 NASB)

1. INTIMACY IS: INTO ME YOU SEE

● BOUNDARIES OF DEEP MUTUAL TRUST

GARDEN: To hedge about, protect, and defend.

EDEN: Pleasure, delicate, delight.

“And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.” (Genesis 2:25 NKJ)

“Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.” (Genesis 3:7 NKJ)

“…they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.” (Genesis 3:8 NKJ)

2. COVENANT LOVE, NOT CONVENIENT LOVE

● RESERVED WITHIN THE COVENANT

“Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure (undefiled), for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.” (Hebrews 13:4 NIV)

● TRUE LOVE WAITS

“The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.” (Proverbs 10:22 NKJ)

3. BECOMING ONE

“…they shall become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24 NASB)

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one.” (John 17:22 NASB)

Life Group Discussion:

  1. How do you build intimacy with God?

  2. How do you build a deep trust with God, and with people? Why is trust so important in building intimacy?

  3. What do you think it means when we say “Date God’s way”? Why is it better?

  4. According the Bible, how should a husband treat his wife; and how should a wife treat her husband? Why? What are the consequences if they don’t?
