Wednesday, May 23rd, 2018

Message By: Pastor Rejulson (Reggie) B. Lagunero

Series: Just In Time!

“EVANGELISM & THE HOLY SPIRIT"

He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” (Luke 24:46-49 NIV)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 NIV)

Objectives:

  1. Hearers will recognize the role of the Holy Spirit in the mission of the church.

  2. Hearers will desire to become effective witness for Christ.

  3. Hearers will know and experience the purifying and enabling power of the Holy Spirit in their lives.

I. THE ROLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH (JOHN 14:26;16:12-14;15:26;16:7-11)

a. The Holy Spirit is the One to testify concerning Jesus.

b. The Holy Spirit is the one who will teach and remind everything about Jesus.

c. The Holy Spirit is the one that will guide the church into all truth.

d. The Holy Spirit is the one that would convict people who heard the gospel.

II. JESUS ON HIS ASCENSION INSTRUCTED HIS DISCIPLE TO GO BACK TO JERUSALEM TO WAIT FOR THE PROMISE OF THE HOLY SPRIT (LUKE 24:46-49; ACTS 1:8)

a. The 11 Disciples, Mary the mother of Jesus, Other Women, Brothers of Jesus and Other Believers (120 in all) were together in Jerusalem waiting for the promise.

b. In the time of waiting all were united in prayer.

III. IN GOD’S OWN TIME THE DISCIPLES WERE BAPTIZED/FILLED/EMPOWERED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT FOR EFFECTIVE WITNESS (ACTS 2:4; 4:8; 8:14-17)

a. Peter, empowered by the Holy Spirit became bold to preach the gospel to thousands of people.

b. Stephen, filled with the Holy Spirit did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people.

c. Philip, led and empowered by the Holy Spirit led a Ethiopian Eunuch to a saving faith in Jesus Christ.

Conclusion:

Evangelism only has life in the hands of the sending God. Not the least because the initiative comes from God himself. The church is the instrument for the accomplishment of that mission. It is for this reason the Holy Spirit is being made available to the church to make this mission fruitful.
