“Focus"

No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. (2 Timothy 2:4 NKJV)

  • FOCUS IS THE ACT OF ELIMINATING DISTRACTIONS

And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. (Matthew 14:28-29 NKJV)

But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. (Matthew 14:30-32 NKJV)

1. FOCUS REQUIRES YOU TO CONSTANTLY ASK, “LORD, IS THAT YOU?”

And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” (Matthew 14:28 NKJV)

2. FOCUS REQUIRES HEARING JESUS, WHEN SEEING ISN’T ENOUGH.

And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.”… (Matthew 14:28-29 NKJV)

3. FOCUS REQUIRES THE DRASTIC DECISION OF SAYING “NO” TO EVERYTHING, BUT “YES” TO THE “ONE THING.”

So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. (Matthew 14:29 NKJV)

4. FOCUS WILL ALWAYS RESULT IN “MORE THAN YOU CAN EVER IMAGINE!”

And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.(Matthew 14:29 NKJV)

Life Group Discussion:

  1. Is your life bombarded with “information overload?” How does this work against a focused life?

  2. Why is it a goal to always ask “LORD, is that you?” in the middle of uncertainties?

  3. Storms can make it hard to see. What else can you do to ensure you’re on the right path if seeing isn’t enough?

  4. Why is there wisdom in saying “no” to everything and “yes” to the “one thing?” How can this promote a focused life?
