"An Unexpected Move"
1. DETOURS ARE NOT NECCESARILY BAD THINGS
Do you like to “stop and smell the roses”?
Do you enjoy the journey, or are you just focused on the destination?
2. GOD RARELY TAKES US IN THE DIRECTION WE EXPECT
When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” Exodus 13:17 (NIV)
3. WE WANT THE EASY AND DIRECT ROUTE
"As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord. They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?" Exodus 14:10-11 (NIV)
4. BUT GOD WANTS US TO BE FREE AND EXPERIENCE HIS BLESSINGS
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Galatians 5:1 (NIV)
Life Group Discussion:
What unexpected directions (or detours) has God taken you?
What was your initial reaction to going in a direction you didn’t expect?
How did it turn out?Was there an unexpected blessing?
