“Vocal Gifts"
"There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-7, NLT)
“It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.” (1 Corinthians 12:11, NLT)
1.) THE GIFT OF TONGUES
A personal language of prayer given by God, whereby the believer can communicate with God beyond the limits of knowledge and understanding.
“ For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious.” (1 Corinthians 14:2, NLT)
2.) THE GIFT OF INTERPRETATION OF TONGUES
Allows the gift of tongues to be of benefit for those other than the speaker, as they are able to hear and agree with the tongue speaker’s words to God.
"Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up.” (1 Corinthians 14:5, ESV)
“So anyone who speaks in tongues should pray also for the ability to interpret what has been said.” (1 Corinthians 14:13, NLT)
3.) THE GIFT OF PROPHECY
The telling-forth of God’s message in a particular situation, always in accord with His Word and His current work.
“Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.” (1 Corinthians 14:1, ESV)
“Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith;” (Romans 12:6, EVS)
Life Group Questions are:
What was the reason for God giving spiritual gifts?
How should spiritual gifts be exercised? (hint-LOVE)
How does speaking or praying in tongues benefit the body of Christ?
How did Paul correct the church in Corinth concerning gifts?
What should prophecy be tested against?
