BREAKING BAD HABITS

BREAKING BAD HABITS!

1.    We admitted we were powerless over our hurts, habits, and hang-ups — that our lives had become unmanageable

Romans 7:15-19 (NIV)

I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.

2.    We came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity

Romans 7:24-25 (NIV)

What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?  Thanks be to God, who delivered me through Jesus Christ our Lord!

Philippians 2:13 (NIV)

For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfil his good purpose.

3.    We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God

Romans 12:1-2 (NIV)

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.  Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Life Group Discussion:

1.    What hurts, habits, or hang-ups have you been powerless over?

2.    Are there areas in which you are doubting God’s power or goodness because He has not healed you yet?

3.    Was there a time in your life when you thought you were going crazy?  To what extent have you been “restored to sanity”?

4.    In what areas do you need to turn your will and life over to God?
