Standing in the Gap
April 17, 2019
Hanalei Santos
“So he said he would destroy them had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him to keep his wrath from destroying them.”
Psalms 106:23 (NIV)
GAP: an unfilled space or interval; a break in continuity.
THE BRIDGE BEARS THE WEIGHT OF THE GAP!
“Fed up, God decided to get rid of them and except for Moses, his chosen, he would have. But Moses stood in the gap and deflected God’s anger prevented it from destroying them utterly.” Psalms 106:23 (MSG)
LET LOVE BE YOUR MOTIVATOR!
“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” Ephesians 4:2 (NIV)
SERVE OUT OF DEVOTION NOT EMOTION!
“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
Romans 12:9,10 (NIV)
OVERCOME AN INGROWN CHURCH BY BRIDGING OUT!
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (NIV)
Jerusalem: Family or City
Judea and Samaria: State and Country
Ends of the Earth: Everywhere else
SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS!
In order to stand in the gap for others, we must be able to bear the weight of that gap. What are you currently doing in order to bear that weight?
A simple or random act of kindness can turn the hearts of many. Has there been a time when we had an opportunity to show kindness and failed to do so? If given the chance, would you approach that situation differently and why?
Are you equipping yourself spiritually to bridge out? If so, what specific steps have you taken?
Read Ezekiel 22:30,31… Discuss how God is constantly looking for those to stand in the gap because He wants to respond with mercy.
