BREAKOUT YEAR 2019!
A young woman shared with me that she thought New Hope Las Vegas was a cult, the first time she attended a morning Service! She said that she came at the constant invitation of a friend, and when she walked into our auditorium, she couldn’t believe church had multi-colored stage lighting, upbeat music, people smiling; laughing; singing; clapping and raising their hands (in the morning!?).
Then, she said “I couldn’t believe the Senior Pastor told jokes in his sermon, and people laughed IN CHURCH!”. She added “I thought, people should be serious, and somber IN CHURCH! People should not be laughing IN CHURCH!” When this young woman told me her story – I laughed!
“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” (Proverbs 17:22 NIV). To gain Jesus, doesn’t mean you need to lose your sense of humor! A lot of people are too wound up, and uptight. They equate “religion” with being super rigid; ultra-serious; and having stone-face. What they don’t realize is that they’re allowing the enemy to steal the fun and joy out of life and the church.
One of God’s heaven made remedy, and free prescription to better health is laughter! Increase your face value, by smiling more! No need to consult a doctor prior to use. There’s no side effects! Well, maybe you’ll get a bit of a “side pain” for laughing so hard. Live closer to the edge of laughter. Why – because people are healed more, when they laugh more! In 2019, let’s BREAK OUT more joy and laughter!
By the way, the young woman got married to her friend who invited her to NHLV; got promoted to a higher paying position; is one of our leaders, and is constantly smiling, and laughing – IN CHURCH!
