“Sometimes, you have to tell your soul to bless the Lord” (Pastor Kent)
You soul is the seat of your mind, will, and emotions – and, I don’t know about you but, sometimes, these three areas of the soul can become spiritually complacent, and stagnant. Sometimes, our soul can miss opportunities to bless God. Listen to David: “…Bless the LORD, O my soul…” (Psalm 104:35 NASB)
Notice, David doesn’t “ask” his soul – “Do you want to bless the Lord?”. No, he TELLS his soul to “Bless the Lord”! It’s like David was saying “MIND! Bless the Lord”; “WILL! Bless the Lord”; “EMOTIONS! Bless the Lord”! Sometimes, you may not feel like it, that’s why you have to tell your soul to bless the Lord. Don’t ask, but do tell.
David even closes Psalm 104 with an exclamatory shout, not a question: “Praise the LORD!”. David doesn’t ask “Praise the LORD?” God is so worthy; so good; so faithful; so merciful - to be blessed, and praised! That’s why I’m not asking, I’m shouting it out and telling!
