#StrongerTrust
“It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going.”
Hebrews 11:8 NLT
“And so a whole nation came from this one man who was as good as dead—a nation with so many people that, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore, there is no way to count them.”
Hebrews 11:12 NLT
ABRAHAM AND GOD HAD A COVENANT OF TRUST.
3 INSIGHTS THAT SUMMARIZE THIS COVENANT:
1. ABRAHAM HAD TO TRUST GOD TO GO BEFORE HIM, WHILE GOD HAD TO TRUST ABRAHAM TO STAY BEHIND.
“I will go before you and will level the mountains; I will break down gates of
bronze and cut through bars of iron.”
Isaiah 45:2 (NIV)
2. ABRAHAM HAD TO KEEP TRUSTING GOD FOR THE PROVISION, WHILE GOD HAD TO KEEP TRUSTING ABRAHAM WITH THE SACRIFICE.
“Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, ‘Father?’ ‘Yes, my son?’ Abraham replied. ‘The fire and wood are here,’ Isaac said, ‘but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?’ Abraham answered, ‘God Himself will provide…’”
Genesis 22:7-8 (NIV)
3. ABRAHAM HAD TO TRUST GOD FOR THE HARVEST, WHILE GOD HAD TO TRUST ABRAHAM WITH THE SEED.
“Then He brought him outside and said, ‘Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.’ And He said to him, ‘So shall yourdescendants be.’”
Genesis 15:5 (NKJV)
Life Group Questions:
1. Abraham went without knowing where he was going. Is God asking you to make a move right now that only He understands? What makes it hard to trust Him to go before you while you stay behind and keep your commitments?
2. Which part of this covenant of trust challenged you the most this week: trusting God to go before you, trusting Him for provision while He trusts you to sacrifice, or trusting Him for the harvest while He trusts you with the seed? Why?
3. What does your harvest picture look like (your marriage, family, calling, ministry)? What seed (time, money, loyalty, love, forgiveness) is God trusting you to sow this week to move toward it?
