Welcoming the Holy Spirit

1. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE THIRD PERSON, OF THE GODHEAD

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

(Genesis 1:1 NKJ)

“…God said, ‘Let US make man in OUR image, according to OUR likeness…”

(Genesis 1:26 NKJ)

  • PNEUMA (Gr): BREATH

  • THE HOLY SPIRIT IS SOMEONE, NOT SOMETHING

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”

(Deuteronomy 6:4-5 NKJ)

“When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’”

(Matthew 3:16-17 NKJ)

“‘If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper…”

(John 14:15-16 NKJ)

  • HETEROS (Another of a DIFFERENT SORT), & ALLOS (Another of the SAME KIND)

  • THE HOLY SPIRIT IS OUR EVER-PRESENT HELPER

“…that He may abide with you forever…the Spirit of truth…He dwells with you and will be in you.’”

(John 14:16-17 NKJ)

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to remembrance all

things that I said to you.” (John 14:26 NKJ).

  • HELPER (Gr: PARAKLETOS)

2. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS YOUR DIVINE MENTOR

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

(2 Timothy 3:16 NIV)

3. THE HOLY SPIRIT EMPOWERS YOU TO DO GREATER WORKS

“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.”

(John 14:12 NIV).

“…Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.”

(Zechariah 4:6 NIV)
